At least 37 items being tested for melamine
By Sumaiya Rizvi
The Health Ministry said the distribution of some 37 items identified to have traces of melamine including milk related food items, chocolates and biscuits have been suspended pending the conclusion of tests.
Health Ministry Food Control Assistant Director P. Madarasinghe said all provincial and municipal health staff had been directed to detain any item suspected to be contaminated with melamine.
Meanwhile the government assured that five leading milk powder brands sold in Sri Lanka were free of melamine, following tests that were conducted in Singapore.
Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardena told a news conference that tests conducted at the ALS Research Lab in Singapore had not found any traces of Melamine in the milk powder samples. He said the brands that had been cleared of Melamine were Anchor, Nespray, Kotmale, Maliban and Diamond.
The minister said reports on ten more milk power brands were pending, since they had delayed to send their samples on time. The Sri Lanka Standard Institute (SLSI) had recommended the Singaporean company to test the milk powder brands for Melamine content in them.
He said President Mahinda Rajapaksa had met representatives of the Munchee Company to discuss claims made by Swiss authorities. The Minister also said he was not able to comment on the restraining order on a certain chocolate company since there was a case pending against them.

The melamine scare is really scary. I still love chocolates though. =)

there's a time for everything
I was chatting with my sister this morning and I was reminded about something that I already learned for ages. I realized that I already forgot the lessons of patience and prayerful waiting. She told me that she used to be like me when she was younger when I told her stories about my dreams and my frustrations. I told her that there are a lot of things that I want to do but it saddens me that I cannot change the circumstances I am in.
She told me those errors in the past that she and her husband experienced were because of her impatience. She said she was always in a hurry... in a hurry to change a situation if she doesn't like it... in a hurry to get things that she wants for herself and her family. Her husband told her that if something is meant to happen to your life, it will happen even if you avoid it. I was reminded. And I felt better that I have an option not be stressed after all.
If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude. Don't complain. - Maya Angelou
Then I should change my attitude, and I should have happier days... and healthier relationships... those will give way to happy endings.
